Bessy Nikolaou

Some say that there is a secret to being successful in social media. But it’s not a secret that “social” is what Bessy does best.

Staying abreast of the rapidly evolving world of digital & emerging media technologies is not work for Bessy. It’s fun. She is fascinated by the way people communicate, understanding the relationships people forge with their digital worlds and learning about the way technology has changed the way we interact, live and work.

Some of us at Time + Space wonder whether or not Bessy has a fixed address, or just lives out of her car. In addition to commanding her social space in the online realm, she spends her free time volunteering with various organizations, speaking at industry events and socializing with friends. She also travels whenever she gets the chance.

If you ever have the opportunity to spend time in Bessy’s office, take a look around. She “wears her geekdom like a badge of honour” – just look for her R2D2 USB hub or set of Harry Potter nesting dolls. Summing Bessy up is not an easy feat, but there is no question that the force is strong with this one.

Bessy has been a leader in developing and implementing digital and social media strategies for major internet companies such as Tucows.com Inc and Torstar Digital, the interactive division of the Toronto Star Corporation. At Torstar she developed and implemented strategies for brands such as Toronto.com, TheStar.com, Ourfaves.com, and consulted on SEO and SEM strategies for Workopolis.com and eHarlequin.com.

In her current role at Time + Space, Bessy has been leading digital, mobile and social media strategies for clients such as Irving (Royale and Majesta brands), Atlantic Lottery, Moosehead and Empire Theatres – to name a few.

Bessy is a regular speaker at industry events, where she happily shares her insights and passion around digital & social media and the changing face of marketing. She serves as Chair on the board of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia’s Young Patrons’ Circle.

Bessy is also recognized as an Alumnus of Gryffindor House.

I had the pleasure of presenting at this year’s AIM Halifax in the company of many esteemed marketers in Atlantic Canada and abroad. I was happy to see a great turnout to my session (despite serious competition from Julien Smith – co-author of Trust Agents) on how to create smart mobile marketing strategies. Peppered with Atlantic Canadian mobile research, my hope was to leave the audience with a solid approach to developing mobile marketing strategies (not just tactics) to help create meaningful connections with ones consumer.
